At the heart of Dijon’s historic centre, a city marked by Renaissance townhouses that bear witness to its prestigious past, Gilles&Boissier reinterprets an old residence by revealing what makes it singular: its memory and its materiality.
The project first seeks to uncover the soul of the place. Original ceilings, exposed beams and traces of time are preserved, while contemporary interventions are introduced with restraint. The aim is to reveal the layers of history while integrating present-day necessities, until the house appears as though it had always been this way.
This quiet elegance is rooted in a local vocabulary and regional materials: a subtle checkerboard floor combining Saint-Laurent marble and Burgundy stone, antique oak panelling sourced from Burgundian houses, and mineral plasters in muted tones.
The architecture reconciles present-day comfort with the character of the past. Spaces regain their logic and their light, modernised through delicate, almost imperceptible gestures. Gradually, the intervention fades behind the evidence of a rediscovered home — a residence designed to endure, where the Burgundian art of living expresses itself with measure and generosity.
" This project is based on the relationship between this old house, its existing beams, its limitations, and its anachronism."
