four seasons mallorca at formentor

At Cape Formentor, Gilles&Boissier has breathed new life into a 1929 Mallorcan icon by grounding it in its landscape: a serene, minimalist design that looks out toward the horizon. Here, the architecture serves as an extension of this nature and this exceptional setting, while remaining true to Mallorcan tradition.

The starting point is the location itself: ocean views, cliffs, pine forests, and the history of an iconic hotel founded in 1929 where Winston Churchill, Grace Kelly, and Audrey Hepburn once mingled. In the summer of 2024, the hotel will undergo a renovation by Gilles&Boissier to breathe new life into this exceptional venue.
The intention is to “celebrate” this landscape and make it the framework of the project, without fanfare. The architecture is understated and serene, ensuring that the exterior remains the primary setting. In the lobby, the design is intentionally low-profile to preserve the horizon; elsewhere, vertical lines echo the silhouette of the trees.
The materials define the identity; they are sourced locally and designed to be an extension of the surrounding nature: Majorcan stone, brushed wood, traditional Ikats textiles from the island, and lighting fixtures from local workshops. The rooms are conceived as serene retreats, where the play of light and shadow creates a contemplative silence.

«Our aim was to create spaces that not only capture the essence of this iconic destination, but also serve as sanctuaries where guests can immerse themselves in a harmonious blend of elegance and nature»
