the lana dorchester collection

As the first Dorchester Collection property in the Middle East, Gilles&Boissier has designed an exceptional hotel inspired by the city’s spectacular rise from the heart of the desert.
Within the Foster+Partners building, Gilles&Boissier envisions an “architecture within,” where materials, light, and texture weave a narrative at the crossroads of cultures, staying true to the Dorchester spirit while asserting a resolutely new identity.

For The Lana, Gilles&Boissier conceives the hotel’s interiors as if crafting “architecture within architecture.”
Starting with an almost blank canvas, the studio first sketched out a spatial framework: understanding the flow of movement, moments of pause, visual connections, and breathing room. Each space is conceived as a sequence, a shift in scale, from the monumentality of the lobby to the enveloping intimacy of the rooms.

The Dubai desert serves as the project’s anchor. Its minerality, harsh light, and almost tactile sensuality inform every creative choice. The lobby unfolds like a geological landscape: pink and beige marbles, gray or black stones, raw or polished materials interact in a subtle interplay of patterns. The floor becomes a kaleidoscope; the walls are striated, scratched, and sculpted.
The lines are never strictly straight; arches, cornices, and curves introduce an organic movement, like an inner city reflecting Dubai, where light flows and reveals textures.
